BriarsBooks has clients all over New Zealand

Briar has been writing books for the last 30 years and is a 3x internationally published author.

Who is Briar? Briar was a journalist with The Press, Christchurch for 14 years - 4 of those in the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Wellington - before she went overseas and began writing books. All of them have been translated into other languages; two of them were significant and controversial books that took years to research and write. Some years ago she began producing books for authors wanting to self-publish.

As a writer and editor, Briar recognises good prose when she sees it. She takes pains to keep edits light and to preserve the writer's distinctive style. If prose is jargon-free and clear, editing is limited mainly to spelling and grammar.

Technically, Briar is a professional book designer. She has an extensive knowledge of computer book production software, notably the Adobe Suite, and experience working with printers. The end of the process is a ready-to-read book delivered to your door. Typically production of self-published books involves some level of editing, cover design, scanning and/or restoration of photos, creation or adaptation of illustrations, and an eye for attractive layout.

With the advent of the e-book Briar began creating digital books for digital bookstores, particularly Amazon Kindle - easily the largest and most popular - but also produces books in epub and pdf formats. Different e-bookstores are progressively accepting epub formats, so it is easier to upload to a range of digital bookstores than it used to be. Attractive epubs and pdfs can also be uploaded to Websites This technology is still developing and web-coding skills are necessary if you want a good result.

BriarsBooks does not undertake marketing or distribution for authors. Most who seek her services are happy to use their own networks and PR ideas to get the book to intended readers.

Costs: Briar keep her costs down and is able to do that better than many professionals in the field because her studio is home-based. Go here for costs.
